The school organized a visit to Qutub complex on 6th May 2018 as part of ITIHAAS curriculum.
The students were enthusiastic to learn about Qutub Minar however they were introduced to the fact that place they were sitting was not just a monument but a city in itself. Quila Rai Pithora, the first city of Delhi was a Rajput city.
The students were briefed about how Muhammad Ghori was attracted to the city and defeated Prithvi Raj Chauhan and Muhammad Ghori chose his slave Qutub-ud-din-Aibak to be the Sultan of Delhi and left.
The students were engrossed throughout the storytelling session. They were then asked to observe the difference in architecture. The students observed the temple and mosque architecture.
They also measured the length and width of the various structure using standard and no standard measuring tools to get an idea of how measurement would have been done during those times.
Students engaged in other activities as well like drawing of Qutub Minar and samples of architecture that showed different styles of the same.
During these activities, students were told to observe the Qutub Minar and observe the difference in style and material on various floors of Qutub Minar. The resource person shared how 4 different rulers contributed to the building of such a structure.
Through these activities, observational skills of the students were used and they could analyze and ask interesting questions.
The resource person ended the session by sharing about Queen Razia Sultan in brief. The students, then took a final tour of the complex before returning to school.
The visit has surely created curiosity in these young minds and this experience will be extremely helpful in building the concept further.
